Richard Brooks, Chairman of The Workboat Association signs the Armed Forces Covenant at Seawork together with Captain of His Majesty’s Naval Base Portsmouth Captain Lee McLocklan.
“The Workboat industry is a fantastic environment for ex-service personnel & Veterans to fulfil secondary careers after leaving full-time positions within the Services, often the skill sets learned during Armed Forces careers have a direct cross-over to the nature of the work carried out daily within workboat operations. Punctuality, respect, team-work, coordination, administration, navigation, digitalisation and equipment use, are all skills that service personnel frequently excel in”. Said Richard Brooks.
“This is why I am proud to say that not only my own employer, Williams Shipping, is a long-standing signatory of the covenant, but now the Workboat Association as well”.
.
The Covenant is a pledge, which focuses on helping members of the Armed Forces community have the same access to and quality of life as any other citizen.
The Workboat Association signed the Armed Forces Covenant at Seawork 2025, to formalise its commitment to supporting the cause. Among the application to become a signatory, the Workboat Association’s personal pledge was “Promoting military skills and qualifications to our member organisations to assist their recruitment and selection process”.
Plans are already underway to put actions to words by the Workboat Association, watch this space!
