Associate NWA member John Percival Marine Associates (JPMA), which is well-known for its workboat crew training courses, has been presented with an award by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The award recognises the support given to the charity for over two decades, in the form of funds raised by selling RNLI merchandise and in-house collecting.
During a small presentation held at Hoylake Lifeboat Station, attended by HSS/JPMA staff members and RNLI crew, Managing Director, Anna Percival-Harris paid tribute to her late father.
“John lived 200 yards from the Lifeboat Station, so it was a big part of his life. He was so proud to have served on the Hoylake RNLI crew, and the thought never crossed his mind that we were doing this for recognition. We are overwhelmed to be presented with an award to acknowledge this. Now we have grown into a larger company, operating in the superyacht and workboat sectors, we still aspire to support this worthy charity and all of the volunteers who risk their lives to save others”.
The late John Percival and his wife Maureen opened Hoylake Sailing School’s doors in 1996.
While John taught RYA courses, Maureen was in charge of running the school’s chandlery, The Bosun’s Locker, selling clothing, equipment and publications/charts to seafarers. It was only natural for the chandlery to also sell RNLI merchandise, given John’s position as Deputy Launching Authority for Hoylake Lifeboat Station.
The school’s affiliation with the Hoylake RNLI fundraising committee has continued to this day, with Hoylake crew members and crew wives also being employed by the school. Every year a large selection of RNLI diaries, calendars and Christmas cards is displayed and sold through the winter period.
Although, among the NWA membership, JPMA is better-known for providing quality training schemes for workboat crews, Hoylake Sailing School has also raised many thousands of pounds for Hoylake Lifeboat Station over the years.
It is great to see an associate NWA member being recognised for an outstanding contribution to the wider maritime community.
