This 'Use of Workboats for Towage -Good Practice Guide' has been produced by NWA members actively involved in towage. The intent is in part to give guidance to underpin the principles of towage which are contained in the revised Workboat Code due to be published shortly by the MCA, as well as answering the recommendation put on the NWA by the MAIB in their report of the investigation into the girting of the line boat /tug "Asterix" in 2015.
It is intended that this will remain a live document and we hope to add some line diagrams in the near future. Should you have any comments with regard to this guide - please send them to;- email@example.com for consideration.
NWA hosts first joint Offshore Wind Safety Forum, bringing together crew transfer vessel operators & managers and wind farm operators to address issues in the safe operation of offshore wind CTVs
Roger Towner, Head of the MCA Seafarer Standards branch recently met section heads and a lawyer from the BG Verkehr in Hamburg. Whilst the BG Verkehr are currently still refusing to accept the UK <200GT Master Code Vessel and <500GT Master Workboat CoCs, issued under article IX of STCW, they did reach a verbal agreement on an interim solution.
The next NWA Safety Forum will be held at the Orbis Centre, Lowestoft, on 6th September at 10am. This offshore wind-focused forum will look to involve all stakeholders in the offshore wind supply chain, with representatives from a selection of our members’ wind clients, shore managers and CTV Masters.
