Norman Finlay Wins Lifetime Achievement Award at Seawork All members will be delighted to learn that Norman Finlay was presented with a special Lifetime Achievement award at the Mercator Media awards at Seawork this week. Norman got by far the biggest round of applause all evening when his award was announced, supported by a good number of NWA Committtee and Members.
The citation recognised the enormous contribution Norman has made to the Workboat sector from the early days of forming the NWA to negotiate wit the MCA to establish the Brown Code in the 1990s, through the expansion of his marine survey business, Associated Marine Consultants to the ongoing liaison with the MCA which has recently led to the current revision of the Workboat Code with the MCA
We are pleased to announce that, at long last, we have secured acceptance for our workboat crewmember apprenticeship in the new ‘Trailblazer’ format. This format attracts a higher level of government funding and will enable you to receive additional funding to train new crews for our industry in the future.
Yvonne Orr, Nick Allen and Mark Ranson met MCA representatives last month to express disquiet at how things were to be taken forward with regard to the acceptance of the <200GT Masters Certificate of Competence (CoC) in German waters.
