We have received a Safety Alert from the Marine Safety Forum relating to an incident in which a crewmember was inadvertently hoisted by a crane on deck.
This high potential near miss provides a timely reminder of the need to:
a) ensure your PPE is properly adjusted, and
b) ensure you put yourself in a safe position prior to giving the lift signal to the crane driver
Whilst this incident happened in the offshore Oil and Gas industry, something similar could easily happen on a workboat engaged in crane operations.
